In early April, members of our Electrical Engineering team at Goldfish & Bay visited Relec Switchboards in Asquith for a technical walk-through and behind-the-scenes look at their operations.

Led by Mathew Emerson and paresh tandon, the session included a detailed presentation and guided factory tour, giving our engineers valuable insight into how custom switchboards are designed, constructed, and tested. Topics covered ranged from cubicle sizing, room spatial planning, switchboard construction methodology, and the compliance requirements outlined in AS/NZS 61439, through to what switchboard builders need from consultants to streamline the design process.

We also discussed lessons learned from site, gained perspective on practical coordination challenges, and explored how smarter design communication leads to more buildable outcomes.

Founded in the early 1980s by Norman Emerson, Relec Switchboards is now a second-generation family-owned business led by Mathew Emerson. With deep roots in the electrical industry and a commitment to ongoing innovation, the team continues to develop their Relec Vector™ modular switchboard system, supported by in-house testing and a strong focus on standards.

At Goldfish & Bay, hands-on experiences like this are essential to strengthening the connection between design, manufacturing, and constructability. A big thank you to Mathew, Paresh, and the Relec team for hosting us and sharing your knowledge so generously.
